The accused appeared before the court again on the negligent supervision charge over the incident. The court decided to temporarily lift the restrictive measures imposed on the 37-year-old, on condition of an additional €10,000 bail, to allow him to travel to Britain for the funeral. It also ordered that his travel documents, which had been confiscated, be returned to him. The court set September 17 as the date for the trial to continue, when the 37-year-old will enter a plea, guilty or not guilty, to the charges he faces over his son’s death. The father’s trip to Britain is expected to take place the day after tomorrow, Wednesday, and the court ordered that he return to Cyprus to remain available to the authorities by September 14 at the latest. The three-year-old boy’s body was already transferred to England last week for burial. With the father’s arrival there, the necessary preparations for the child’s burial will now go ahead in the coming days. The fatal incident took place on the afternoon of Sunday, July 12, at a hotel in the coastal area of Chlorakas, where the British family had checked in for their holiday just hours earlier. Police investigations found that the three-year-old fell while playing with his father in the corridor of the fourth floor, where their room was, as they waited for the lift to take them to the restaurant. The boy slipped from his father’s hands and fell through an open window in front of them. An ambulance was called to the scene from Paphos Hospital, but by the time paramedics arrived, the child was not responding. He was taken to Paphos Hospital, where doctors on duty confirmed his death. CID Paphos officers arrived at the scene and began investigating the circumstances that led to the fatal incident. The father was arrested a few hours later, facing allegations of inadequate supervision of the minor, since he had been responsible for supervising the child at the time. As previously reported, the father was released on bail under conditions that included a €20,000 cash deposit, having his name placed on a stop list, surrendering his travel documents, signing in weekly at Paphos central police station, being barred from crossing roadblocks, and declaring his full residential address to police.
