The trial date has since been pushed back: it was ultimately set to start on September 1, rather than September 3 as originally decided. Until then, he will remain in custody under a court order that granted a related request from prosecution representative Matthaios Antoniou. The prosecutor’s central argument was that the 48-year-old posed a risk of reoffending against the complainant. He faces charges of psychological violence, threats, insult, disobeying a court order, and contempt of court. The alleged offences concern the accused’s former partner. According to the charge sheet, he is also accused of violating a court order that had imposed restrictive measures. Beyond the already serious matter of domestic violence itself, the case carries additional weight because the accused had drawn the attention of authorities and public opinion over public-interest matters that came to light earlier this year and relate to Paphos. The court also heard that at least three other similar cases involving his former partner have been filed against the 48-year-old in recent years.
