The mobilisation aims to highlight the need to strengthen local government, with particular emphasis on securing administrative, operational and financial autonomy for municipalities so they can respond effectively to residents’ growing needs and provide quality services. In a statement, Paphos Municipality said local government forms a key pillar of public administration and noted that maintaining strong, sustainable municipalities benefits residents themselves. It also expressed support for every institutional effort to strengthen the role and effectiveness of local authorities through dialogue and cooperation among all parties involved. The municipality clarified that staff participation in the protest is entirely voluntary, and said no employee is obliged to take part, nor will any employee face different treatment based on their choice. At the same time, it said every effort will be made to ensure municipal services continue operating without disruption and continue meeting residents’ urgent and essential needs during the mobilisation. The event is described as purely peaceful, institutional and symbolic in character, with its core demand being a strong, effective and financially sustainable system of local government for the benefit of citizens and local communities.
