In a statement released on Wednesday, the association called for urgent intervention from the Ministry of Transport to address the ongoing issues.
Since the beginning of the school year, parents have reported numerous instances where scheduled bus services have not been implemented as planned. The association emphasized that these disruptions are causing significant inconvenience for families, as students are frequently left without access to their schools.
“It cannot be accepted that students remain without transportation and that their studies are disrupted, without immediate and effective intervention by the competent authorities,” the association stated. They condemned the actions of Cyprus Public Transport, the company responsible for operating school bus services in the Larnaca district, for cancelling routes that are considered essential for students’ daily commutes.
The parents’ group highlighted that the lack of reliable transportation is unjustifiable, particularly since families have already paid the required fares for the service. They stressed that the provision of safe and consistent transport to and from school is a contractual obligation that should be upheld by the service provider.
“Any delinquent behaviour – which organized parents have condemned many times in the past and have called for effective measures to be taken by the state – should not be an alibi for cancelling school schedules and victimizing students who bear no responsibility,” the statement continued.
In light of the ongoing disruptions, the association is demanding the immediate restoration of all cancelled routes and is urging the transport ministry to find a permanent solution to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. They warned that failure to address these issues could have serious consequences for students and their families.
