Organised patrols were carried out at key locations in urban areas. Those arrested are suspected of offences including domestic violence, housebreaking, unlawful possession of property, drug possession, possession of an offensive weapon, residing illegally in the Republic and traffic violations. Officers stopped 620 vehicles and checked 848 occupants during the operations. Police also inspected 50 premises as part of efforts to combat unlawful activity, resulting in nine reports. Traffic checks led to 252 reports for various offences, while police opened investigations into a further 19 suspected traffic violations. Seventeen vehicles were impounded. Of the traffic reports, 105 involved speeding and 25 involved driving under the influence of alcohol. Five suspected drug-driving cases were also recorded following preliminary drug tests. Police carried out 420 breathalyser tests and seven drug tests on drivers. Police said the daily operations to prevent and combat crime would continue through an increased presence, targeted checks and immediate operational action to protect the public and maintain public order.
