The arrests came as police carried out organised patrols in key locations across urban areas islandwide overnight, aimed at preventing serious crime, maintaining public order and boosting the public’s sense of security, according to police. During the operations, officers stopped and checked 680 drivers and 227 passengers. They also carried out 42 checks on premises to tackle offending, resulting in three reports, police said. Traffic checks produced 339 reports for various violations. Nine cases of traffic offences remain under investigation, officers added. Of the reports issued, 89 were for speeding. Police impounded five vehicles during their checks. They also carried out 165 alcohol tests, with six positive results, while one driver tested positive in a preliminary drug test, police said. Policing operations to prevent and suppress crime continue daily, with increased police presence, targeted checks and immediate operational action, part of efforts to boost citizens’ sense of security and maintain public order, police said.
