The five were arrested for various offences, including two cases of theft, illegal stay in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus, driving under the influence of alcohol and violating the conditions of a security guard licence. During the operations, police stopped and checked 841 drivers and 254 passengers. Officers also carried out 50 checks on premises as part of efforts to tackle incidents of law-breaking, resulting in five complaints. Traffic checks carried out during the night resulted in 304 complaints for various road offences, while 28 traffic-related cases are under investigation. Of the traffic complaints recorded, 67 involved speeding offences, while 24 vehicles were impounded as part of police investigations. Police carried out 286 alcohol tests, resulting in 22 complaints. Preliminary drug tests also recorded three positive results. Police operations aimed at preventing and combating crime continue on a daily basis, with increased police presence, targeted checks and immediate operational action to enhance citizens’ sense of security, protect the public and maintain public order.
