Members of the Anti-Drugs Unit (YKAN) searched a home in Nicosia yesterday under a court warrant, where a 33-year-old man lives, police said in a statement. The search uncovered two kilos and five grams of cannabis and 266 grams of cocaine, carefully hidden in various locations around the property. Police arrested the 33-year-old man and took him into custody. He is expected to appear before Nicosia District Court for a detention order. In a separate case in Limassol, police stopped a car yesterday driven by a 21-year-old man after officers spotted it moving suspiciously with no front number plate. Officers found four packages containing 46 grams of cannabis, about 3.5 grams of cocaine, €1,850 in cash, precision scales, disposable gloves and other evidence in the vehicle. Police initially arrested the 21-year-old for an in-flagrante offence, then rearrested him under a court warrant and took him into custody. Separately, a 20-year-old man was arrested yesterday over a drug possession case from August 13 in the Larnaca district. That case involved the discovery of 342 grams of cannabis and cannabis resin, along with five grams of cocaine. A 22-year-old man had already been arrested over the same case and remanded for four days. Overnight, five further drug possession cases emerged in Ayia Napa and Paphos, leading to the arrest of five people aged 23, 25, 26, 27 and 29. 323kg of cannabis and 81kg of cocaine seized since the start of the year The overall picture from YKAN’s work since the start of the year is significant. Police have seized a total of 323 kilos of cannabis and cannabis resin and 81 kilos of cocaine between January 1, 2026 and today, according to police. Police said the quantities seized, combined with continuing operations, investigations and arrests, demonstrate YKAN’s sustained action against drug trafficking and dealing. Investigations into all the cases are ongoing.
