**Police Report 23 in Paphos Electric Scooter Crackdown**
Paphos, Cyprus – In a concerted effort to address the illegal use of electric scooters and other personal mobility devices (PMDs), local authorities conducted a targeted operation along the Paphos seafront on Tuesday evening. The operation resulted in the reporting of 23 individuals for various violations, as confirmed by the police on Wednesday.
During the operation, 20 individuals were cited for infractions related to the use of PMDs. Notably, three riders were reported specifically for operating their scooters on pedestrian walkways, an area where such activity is strictly prohibited. As part of the enforcement measures, the scooters belonging to these individuals were confiscated.
This initiative is part of a broader campaign spearheaded by the Paphos municipality in collaboration with local traffic police. The primary goal of the campaign is to enforce existing legislation regarding personal mobility devices and enhance overall road safety for both pedestrians and riders.
Authorities have indicated that additional targeted operations are planned in the near future. These will not only focus on individual riders but will also scrutinize rental companies that may be operating without the necessary municipal permits. Since the beginning of 2026, there have been a total of 132 reported violations concerning personal mobility devices in the Paphos district, underscoring the need for increased regulation and enforcement.
In light of these developments, authorities have reiterated the guidelines for the use of privately owned electric scooters. Riders are permitted to use their scooters only on roads with a speed limit of up to 30 km/h, within designated cycle lanes, and in shared areas specifically marked for both pedestrians and cyclists. Conversely, the use of scooters is explicitly prohibited in pedestrian streets and squares unless prior permission has been granted.
The crackdown on illegal scooter use aims to foster a safer environment for all users of the seafront and to ensure compliance with local regulations regarding personal mobility devices.
