Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated his Belarusian counterpart, Alexander Lukashenko, on Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus on Friday as he highlighted the fruitful cooperation between Moscow and Minsk across the board. "This day is a cause for celebration and has special significance not only for Belarusians, but also for the Russian people, since this holiday has its roots in a glorious page from our shared history - the liberation of Minsk from Nazi invaders," the Russian head of state said in a message of greetings released on the Kremlin website. According to Putin, the bonds of fraternal friendship and mutual support, "forged during the harsh war years," "have been and still are serving as a solid foundation for enhancing allied relations between Russia and Belarus."
