**Raging Wildfire Forces 20,000 to Evacuate in British Columbia**
A state of emergency has been declared in British Columbia, Canada, as a rapidly spreading wildfire has prompted mass evacuations in several communities. The Bald Range wildfire, first reported on Friday west of Summerland, has nearly doubled in size overnight, now covering over 100 square kilometers.
The blaze, fueled by strong winds and dry vegetation, has led to evacuation orders for residents in Summerland, Peachland, and other areas west of Okanagan Lake. Local officials have indicated that this wildfire has triggered the largest evacuation event in the province this summer, with more than 20,000 individuals forced to leave their homes.

A towering column of smoke can be seen rising above the forests near Summerland, as firefighting aircraft work tirelessly to combat the flames. Fire behavior specialist Ben Bergin explained that the region has experienced three days of exceptionally hot and dry weather, exacerbated by a high-pressure system that has kept smoke close to the ground. However, containment measures and a fuel break have been established on the eastern side of the blaze to help manage its spread.
