**Roadworks Planned on Nicosia-Limassol and Limassol-Paphos Motorways Next Week**
Drivers in Cyprus are being warned to prepare for potential delays next week as essential maintenance work is scheduled on several key roadways, including sections of the Nicosia-Limassol and Limassol-Paphos motorways, along with the old Nicosia-Limassol road. The public works department has outlined a series of planned activities aimed at improving road safety and infrastructure.
The maintenance works will commence on Monday, July 20, and continue through Friday, July 24. The first phase involves expansion joint replacement on the Yialia bridge located on the Nicosia-Limassol motorway. This work will take place on Monday and Tuesday nights, specifically from 9 PM to 5:30 AM. During this period, the middle and right-hand (fast) lanes will be closed for approximately 800 meters on the carriageway heading towards Limassol. Traffic will be diverted to the remaining left lane to ensure continued flow.
In addition to the bridge work, on Tuesday, July 21, from 8 PM until the early hours of Wednesday, crews will also be conducting waste collection along the central median of the Nicosia-Limassol motorway between Skarinou and Germasogeia. This will result in the closure of the fast lane towards Limassol in sections, with traffic redirected to the slower lane.
Further expansion joint replacement operations on the Yialia bridge are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, July 22 and 23, again from 9 PM to 5:30 AM. During these nights, the left lane will be closed for about 800 meters, allowing traffic to use the middle and fast lanes.
Meanwhile, from Tuesday, July 21, through Thursday, July 23, daytime sweeping works will be conducted on the Limassol-Paphos motorway. These activities will occur between 7 AM and 3 PM and will affect both directions of traffic between the Limassol New Hospital interchange and the Petra tou Romiou exit. The fast lane will be closed in sections of approximately 200 meters at a time, with vehicles diverted to the adjacent lane to maintain traffic flow.
On Friday, July 24, road marking works will take place on a 1.5-kilometer stretch of the old Nicosia-Limassol road within Kofinou. This work will also be conducted during the day, from 7 AM to 3 PM, and will involve the closure of one lane in sections of around 100 meters, with traffic directed to the adjacent lane.
The public works department has urged all motorists to exercise caution while driving through these areas and to adhere to temporary road signs and the instructions provided by police and on-site workers. The department emphasizes the importance of safety during these maintenance activities and encourages drivers to plan their journeys accordingly to minimize inconvenience.
As the roadworks are expected to cause delays, drivers are advised to allow for extra travel time and consider alternative routes where possible. The maintenance is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the safety and functionality of Cyprus's road network, ensuring that infrastructure remains in good condition for all road users.
