**Russia Launches New Military Spacecraft into Orbit**
Russia has successfully launched a new military spacecraft into orbit aboard a Soyuz-2.1b rocket, according to a statement from the Defense Ministry. The launch took place at 5:40 AM Moscow time on Monday from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome, located in the Arkhangelsk Region.
The specific type and mission of the newly deployed spacecraft have not been disclosed by the authorities. However, the Defense Ministry indicated that the spacecraft was sent into orbit "in the interests of the Russian Defense Ministry." Following the launch, the spacecraft reached its designated orbit and was placed under the control of ground-based Space Forces systems.
The Defense Ministry reported that stable telemetry communication has been established with the spacecraft, and its onboard systems are functioning normally. The flight and deployment of the spacecraft proceeded as planned, indicating a successful mission for the Russian military.
The Soyuz-2.1b rocket, a disposable three-stage medium-lift launch vehicle, has a history of being used for both military and civilian satellite deployments. After the launch, the rocket and its payload were monitored by the ground-based automated control complex of the German Titov Main Test Space Center, which is responsible for overseeing Russian military spacecraft operations.
This launch follows a series of military missions from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome earlier this year. Notably, on April 17, a Soyuz-2.1b rocket was used to carry multiple spacecraft into orbit for the Defense Ministry. Just days later, on April 23, an Angara-1.2 light rocket was launched from the same facility, also carrying military satellites.
Plesetsk Cosmodrome is Russia's northernmost major launch facility, strategically located to facilitate the deployment of spacecraft into polar orbits. These orbits are particularly useful for Earth observation and military operations. Originally established as a Soviet intercontinental ballistic missile base, Plesetsk was repurposed for space launches in the 1960s.
The first satellite launch from Plesetsk occurred in March 1966, when a Vostok-2 rocket successfully placed the Kosmos-112 reconnaissance spacecraft into orbit. Since then, the cosmodrome has evolved into a significant launch site for both Soviet and Russian military spacecraft, hosting numerous launches involving various versions of the R-7 family of rockets, from which the modern Soyuz launch vehicle is derived.
