**Russian Military Claims Ability to Bypass Ukrainian Air Defenses**
The Russian Defense Ministry has asserted that its military forces possess the capability to "reliably penetrate" any air defense systems currently deployed by Ukraine, allowing them to strike targets across the nation. This statement was made on Saturday, following a significant long-range attack that targeted Ukrainian arms production facilities and related infrastructure.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense (MOD), the recent strikes focused on various locations, including drone assembly and storage sites in Kyiv, as well as port infrastructure, military storage facilities, and fuel depots in the Odessa Region, specifically in the cities of Izmail, Chernomorsk, and Yuzhny.
The MOD emphasized that the ongoing long-range strike campaign has demonstrated the Russian military's ability to hit any target within Ukraine, asserting that the geography of these strikes extends beyond Kyiv, which is considered one of the most fortified areas due to the deployment of Western missile defense systems by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
In a statement, President Zelensky reported that the latest Russian offensive involved over 120 drones and 12 missiles, with half of the missiles being classified as ballistic. He noted that while "most" of the targets were intercepted, all of the ballistic missiles successfully reached their intended destinations. This has raised concerns within the Ukrainian leadership regarding their diminishing capacity to counter Russian ballistic missile attacks, prompting calls for increased support from Western allies in the form of interceptor missiles.
The Russian Foreign Ministry's spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, responded to Zelensky's pleas for more military assistance by dismissing them as futile. In an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda, she characterized Zelensky's situation as one where he is "like a tick that has burrowed into the flesh of the Ukrainian people that can’t get enough blood," implying that his demands for arms will not alleviate the challenges faced by Ukraine.
Moscow's recent escalation of long-range attacks on Ukraine's military and dual-use infrastructure has been framed by the Russian government as a response to what they describe as terrorist actions by Kyiv against Russian civilian infrastructure. This increase in military activity follows a series of setbacks experienced by Ukrainian forces on the battlefield.
In a related development, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the recent capture of Konstantinovka, a significant city in the Donbass region, which had been one of the last major strongholds under Ukrainian control in that area.
As the conflict continues, the dynamics of military engagements and the responses from both sides remain fluid, with ongoing implications for the broader geopolitical landscape in the region.
