**Russian CEO to Lead $1 Billion Indian Neurotech Fund**
A new investment initiative in India aims to channel $1 billion into the country's neurotechnology sector over the next five years. The fund, named ADI Neuroscience, has garnered backing from SPEC Finance India and prominent Russian entrepreneur Aleksandr Panov, who serves as the CEO of Neiry, a company specializing in neurotechnology and brain-computer interfaces (BCIs).
Neurotechnology encompasses a range of devices and technologies designed to facilitate communication with the human brain. This sector has gained significant attention globally, with companies like Elon Musk's Neuralink leading the charge in BCI innovations.
According to market intelligence firm Tracxn, India currently ranks third in the BCI sector, hosting 12 startups. This places it behind China, which has 23 startups, and the United States, boasting 101. Despite the promising number of startups, Indian firms have attracted only approximately $8.5 million in funding over the past decade. In contrast, U.S. startups have secured $3.03 billion, while Chinese companies have raised $117 million.
The global BCI market is projected to expand significantly, with estimates suggesting it will grow from $2.87 billion in 2024 to $15.14 billion by 2035, as reported by Spherical Insights & Consulting. This anticipated growth underscores the potential for India to emerge as a key player in the neurotechnology landscape.
Launched recently, ADI Neuroscience aims to position India as a central hub for neurotechnology development. The organization emphasizes the unique opportunity India has to influence the establishment of standards and regulatory frameworks within the sector, rather than merely conforming to those created in other countries.
"The fund’s resources will be directed toward advancing neurotechnology R&D in India, creating competitive products, and developing the industry domestically," stated Karan Dinesh Singh Rawat, CEO of SPEC Finance Group. This commitment to fostering local innovation is expected to stimulate both research and development efforts and the broader industry.
The fund also boasts strong connections to Russian technological expertise. Aleksandr Panov, who is recognized as an ambassador for deep-tech entrepreneurship, serves as a scientific adviser for ADI Neuroscience. Additionally, Mikhail Lebedev, a professor at Moscow State University known for his work on brain-to-brain interfaces, is a member of the fund's scientific board.
