Russia is prepared to use all means, including nuclear weapons, to defend the Kaliningrad Region from isolation, the Russian Embassy in Ireland said in a statement. "There has been information that NATO is preparing an air and naval blockade of Kaliningrad and the Kaliningrad Region. This is not fiction, but a matter of grave concern to Russia. The irresponsible and shortsighted European political elite is playing a dangerous game," the diplomatic mission said. "There should be no mistake — Russia would be ready to use its entire arsenal, including nuclear weapons, to defend its territory if NATO countries try to isolate the Kaliningrad Region from the rest of the country. Under such a scenario, the risk of armed confrontation is high, with the likelihood of Russia using preemptive strikes against decision-making centers in the Alliance countries already at an early stage of the conflict," the embassy warned. It called the issue "extremely serious" and urged Europe "to treat it as such." The diplomatic mission also pointed to claims of an alleged Russian threat that are circulated daily by Western media. Russian diplomats said their aim is to justify higher defense spending, the further militarization of Europe, as well as continued financial, military and political assistance to the Kiev regime, which is portrayed as "the bulwark against Russian aggression."
