**Russian FSB to Feature in New TV Show 'Pros'**
A new television series titled 'Pros' is set to premiere on October 18 on REN TV, showcasing dramatizations of some of Russia's most significant counterterrorism operations. The 16-part series has been developed with the assistance of officers from the Federal Security Service (FSB), who provided insights into real cases and operational details, ensuring a level of authenticity in its portrayal of the challenges faced by security personnel.
The series was previewed behind closed doors at an FSB cultural center in Moscow, where veterans and current officers, some of whom remain unidentified for security reasons, gathered to witness the first look at the production. The chief and general producer of REN TV, Vladimir Tyulin, articulated the motivation behind the project, emphasizing the need for heroes in society. "The country needs heroes, children need heroes they could look up to," he stated, underscoring the show's intent to inspire and educate viewers about the sacrifices made by those in the line of duty.
'Pros' follows a fictional team of seven FSB special forces officers as they navigate through various cases inspired by real-life events. Among the incidents depicted are the 2009 bombing of the Moscow-St. Petersburg Nevsky Express train and the 2011 attack at Moscow's Domodedovo Airport, as well as counterterrorism efforts in the North Caucasus region. The series aims to highlight the complexities and dangers of counterterrorism work, bringing to light operations that have had a profound impact on Russian society.
One notable episode will focus on the operation against Doku Umarov, the leader of an Islamist militant group responsible for numerous terrorist attacks, including the deadly Domodedovo bombing that resulted in the loss of 37 lives, and the 2010 Moscow Metro bombings, which claimed 40 lives. This focus on real events is designed to provide viewers with a deeper understanding of the threats faced by the country and the efforts made to combat them.
To ensure accuracy in the portrayal of tactical operations, security personnel served as consultants throughout the production process. They assisted the writers in incorporating operational details that were previously known only to those directly involved in such missions. The actors also underwent specialized training to learn how to use tactical gear and operate as a cohesive unit, further enhancing the series' realism.
The authenticity of 'Pros' has been praised by several individuals connected to the FSB. Sergey Shavrin, a decorated Hero of Russia and veteran of the FSB's Vympel special unit, commended the series for its realistic depiction of the officers' lives, particularly in how they manage to keep the realities of their work hidden from their families. This aspect of the narrative aims to shed light on the personal sacrifices made by those in the security services.
Alexander Smirnov, a terrorism researcher and lecturer at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), also expressed his admiration for the series. He described it as "simply magnificent," noting its ability to maintain suspense while authentically portraying the real work of counterterrorism officers.
As the premiere date approaches, 'Pros' is generating anticipation among viewers, particularly those interested in the intersection of entertainment and real-world security issues. The series aims to not only entertain but also educate the public about the complexities of counterterrorism efforts in Russia, providing a glimpse into the lives of those who work tirelessly to ensure national security.
