Russian stock market closes higher on key indices The MOEX Index climbed 1.86% to finish Monday's main trading session at 2,319.57 points, while the RTS Index edged up 0.12% to 860.36 pointsMOSCOW, October 5. /TASS/. The ruble-denominated MOEX Index climbed 1.86% to finish Monday's main trading session at 2,319.57 points, while the dollar-denominated RTS Index edged up 0.12% to 860.36 points. The Chinese yuan strengthened by 25.7 kopecks against the ruble to close at 12.754 rubles. "Today, the MOEX Index managed to break past the psychological threshold of 2,300 points and attempted to consolidate above it. The commodities sector was also broadly supportive for buyers, with metals gaining and oil trading above $100, albeit with fluctuating momentum," said Andrey Smirnov, a stock market expert at BCS World of Investments. "Positive Technologies (+5.1%) emerged as the top gainer on the Russian stock market today, likely driven by the Ministry of Finance's statements regarding the retention of tax incentives for the IT sector," noted Natalia Milchakova, lead analyst at Freedom Global. Bank Saint Petersburg shares spearheaded the decline, plunging 7.8% ahead of the dividend ex-date for the first half of 2026, according to the analyst. BCS World of Investments expects the MOEX Index to continue its struggle to hold above the 2,300-point mark on Tuesday. In the coming days, the US dollar is projected to trade within the 84-86 ruble range, while the yuan is expected to fluctuate between 12.5 and 12.8 rubles. Freedom Global forecasts the MOEX Index to move within the 2,250-2,350 point band on Tuesday. Its exchange rate forecasts for the dollar, euro, and yuan stand at 84-86 rubles, 94-96 rubles, and 12.5-12.9 rubles, respectively. Meanwhile, Tsifra Broker notes that major currencies may enter a consolidation phase, with the Chinese yuan trading at 12.3-12.8 rubles, the US dollar at 83-87 rubles, and the euro at 93-97 rubles.
