REUTERS / Ramil Sitdikov Russia's FSB security service said on Sunday that an underage Russian national was detained over a threat to carry out a terrorist attack in Moscow's Tsaritsyno Park, after Russia received a tip-off from the United States, Interfax reported. "We are grateful to the American side for providing the information," the security service was quoted as saying in a statement. The U.S. Embassy in Moscow on Saturday issued an urgent security alert warning of a credible threat of a mass casualty event at the museum reserve that day. The embassy said the U.S. government was coordinating with Russian authorities on a response and urged people to avoid the area and take precautions to ensure their safety. The FSB later confirmed that it had received information from the United States about plans for a terrorist attack in Moscow and was taking action. Tsaritsyno was evacuated Saturday during a concert by musician Lilia Pechenkina. “Just as I was playing the last piece in the program, an evacuation announcement came over the loudspeaker,” Pechenkina told the news outlet Ostorozhno, Novosti. Security staff told a journalist from the outlet that the museum reserve had been closed for “technical reasons.” Around 50 law enforcement officers were dispatched to the area, with police vehicles patrolling the perimeter, according to the Baza Telegram channel, which is reported to have ties to Russia’s security services. In 2024, the U.S. warned of an impending terrorist threat in Moscow ahead of the March 22 attack on Crocus City Hall, which killed 145 people and wounded hundreds more. Russian foreign intelligence chief Sergei Naryshkin later said the U.S. information had been “too general” to identify the attackers. Reuters contributed reporting.
