Russia’s manufacturing PMI index up to 49.8 points in September

TASS English · 2026-10-01

AI SUMMARY

• What happened: Russia's Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) rose to 49.8 points in September from 48.8 in August, indicating a slight easing in the decline of manufacturing activity despite ongoing weak demand for goods. • Why it matters: A PMI value below 50 suggests a contraction in business activity, and the continued weakness in new orders and export demand raises concerns about the overall health of Russia's manufacturing sector. • What to watch next: Analysts will be monitoring future PMI reports for signs of recovery or further decline, as well as the impact of external factors such as pricing and competition on Russian manufacturing.

Russia’s manufacturing PMI index up to 49.8 points in September Demand for Russian manufactured goods remained weak during SeptemberMOSCOW, October 1. /TASS/. Russia’s Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) rose to 49.8 points in September 2026 from 48.8 points in the previous month, the S&P Global analytical agency said in a report. "Demand for Russian manufactured goods remained weak during September, as new order intakes decreased for the second month running. Panelists noted that lower new sales were largely due to higher prices and competition," the report said. Although the pace of decline in total new business eased from August, new export orders fell at a marked rate and one that was the sharpest since May 2022. Similarly, output levels decreased for the second month running in September amid weak demand. That said, the pace of contraction cooled from that seen in August. The PMI value above 50 points is indicative of the business activity growth and the value below the said level flags its slowdown.
