**SBA Police Arrest 30 in Latest Summer Operations**
The Sovereign Base Areas (SBA) police have reported a significant increase in arrests during their recent summer operations, with a total of 30 individuals taken into custody over the past week. This announcement was made by authorities on Tuesday, highlighting the ongoing efforts to enhance road safety and combat drug-related offenses in the region.
As part of their initiatives, SBA police conducted 20 road safety campaigns, which resulted in the issuance of 33 fixed penalty notices and 34 written cautions. These operations are part of a broader strategy to ensure safe driving practices and reduce incidents related to impaired driving.
One notable incident occurred in Akrotiri on Sunday, where a driver was apprehended after testing positive for both cocaine and opium. In addition to the drug violations, the driver was found to be over the legal alcohol limit. During the arrest, police seized a small quantity of suspected cocaine. The passenger in the vehicle was also arrested after authorities discovered cannabis and drug paraphernalia in their possession.
In a separate operation in Episkopi, police arrested three individuals after a driver tested positive for methamphetamines and cannabis. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered additional cannabis, drug paraphernalia, and a knife, further emphasizing the serious nature of the offenses.
Another incident in Dhekelia involved a driver who was stopped for dangerous driving. Upon testing, the driver was found to be positive for cannabis, which was also located in their possession.
SBA police have indicated that targeted patrols and checks will continue as the summer operations draw to a close. The focus remains on ensuring public safety and addressing drug-related issues on the roads.
