**Seven Productions Launch Theatre Festival This July**
The Satiriko Theatre Festival is set to debut in Nicosia, Cyprus, running from July 7 to July 17, 2023. This new theatrical initiative aims to provide a platform for theatre-makers and performance groups from both Cyprus and abroad, enabling them to showcase innovative artistic proposals and original works.
The festival will kick off with "Hear Me Raw," a satirical autobiographical comedy penned by Daniella Isaacs. This production delves into the wellness industry and society's obsession with achieving the perfect healthy lifestyle. The narrative follows a seemingly flawless blogger and influencer who pursues an idealized existence, only to confront the reality behind the façade as the filters come off.
Following the opening performance, the festival will feature a variety of productions catering to diverse audiences. On July 10, Teatro Angelico will present "Alice in the Land of Football," a children’s performance scheduled for 6 PM. This show employs humor and imagination to tackle themes of self-esteem, acceptance, perseverance, and the joy of embracing one's true self.
The same evening at 8 PM, "Sessions," written by Athina Tsangaridou and Stavri Kalopetridou, will take the stage. This performance combines movement and text to create an intense exploration of obsession, identity, and inner fragmentation.
The festival continues on July 11 with "Untitled Electra," presented by Vertebra Theatre. This contemporary and experimental reimagining of Sophocles’ "Electra" offers a female and queer perspective, engaging in dialogue with Jean-Paul Sartre’s "The Flies."
On July 13, "Paraphernalia," conceptualized by Ioanna Papamichalopoulou and Aristi Pavlou, will explore the struggles of two characters trying to navigate a world that has lost its fixed points of reference.
The following night, July 14, Giorgos Papakonstantinou’s "Flat Shoes" will present a humorous and musical reflection on the contradictions of life in one’s thirties, delivered with a confessional tone.
The festival will conclude on July 17 with "Diary in Progress," based on Lena Kitsopoulou’s "Frankenstein Diary." This performance, created by Eleni Anastasiou, addresses themes of loneliness, existential anxiety, and the inner monsters that individuals carry, as expressed through the stories of six women.
All performances will take place at Satiriko Theatre in Nicosia, with the exception of the children's show, which is scheduled for an earlier time. The festival aims to engage audiences with a diverse range of theatrical experiences, all presented in Greek.
