**Sinner Beats the Heat and Breezes Past Brooksby into Wimbledon Fourth Round**
Jannik Sinner continued his pursuit of a successful title defense at Wimbledon on Friday, defeating American Jenson Brooksby in straight sets: 6-4, 6-3, 6-4. This victory not only propelled the world number one into the fourth round but also solidified his reputation as a formidable contender at the All England Club.
After a challenging start to the tournament, where Sinner was pushed to a five-set match in his opening round and faced two tough tiebreaks in the subsequent match, the Italian player appeared increasingly comfortable on the grass surface of Court One. He efficiently managed the match against Brooksby, allowing the American very few chances to disrupt his momentum.
“I’m very happy about the win, I’m trying to improve every day,” Sinner remarked following his victory. He acknowledged that he arrived at Wimbledon without any competitive grass court matches under his belt, following an unexpected early exit at the French Open. “A small step forwards today, trying to get better. If I want to go far in this tournament, there are a couple of things that we need to work on,” he added.
The match began under warm conditions, and Sinner wasted no time in asserting his dominance. He broke Brooksby’s serve to take a 4-3 lead in the first set after the American sent a forehand long. Sinner closed out the opening set in just 37 minutes, showcasing his ability to adapt quickly to the grass surface.
In the second set, Brooksby, currently ranked 81st in the world, attempted to change his strategy by drawing Sinner to the net. However, Sinner’s exceptional movement and shot-making skills allowed him to counter Brooksby’s tactics effectively, leading to a swift doubling of his lead in the match.
The third set saw Brooksby make a strong start, breaking Sinner’s serve first. Nonetheless, Sinner responded immediately, reclaiming control of the match. Despite a late service drop, he maintained his composure and secured the victory, setting up a fourth-round clash with Japanese qualifier Shintaro Mochizuki, who advanced after defeating Rafael Jodar.
“I’ve never played him (Mochizuki) before. Whoever is in the fourth round of a Grand Slam deserves to be there. So it’s going to be a tough match,” Sinner commented on his upcoming opponent. He noted the unpredictability of the grass surface, emphasizing the importance of being prepared. “If you have a flat on the wrong day, it’s tough to get out, so let’s see,” he said.
Sinner’s focus remains on his own performance as he prepares for the next round. “But, of course, I try to look more on my side of the net, trying to be the best as I can in a couple of days. I’m trying to recover as well, and then we’ll see how it goes. But it’s always special to be back here,” he concluded.
As the tournament progresses, Sinner’s blend of skill and determination will be crucial as he aims to navigate the challenges ahead and continue his quest for another Wimbledon title.
