**Sino-Cypriot Cultural Week Celebrates 55 Years of Diplomatic Relations**
Nicosia, Cyprus – The 2026 Cyprus-China Film Week, a significant cultural event marking the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Cyprus, concluded successfully on June 15. The six-day festival, which took place in Nicosia, was organized collaboratively by the Chinese embassy in Cyprus, the National Film Administration of China, and the Cypriot deputy ministry of culture.
The event showcased a variety of films and cultural performances, with the highlight being the premiere of the Chinese martial arts film "Blades of the Guardians: Wind Rises in the Desert." This film features Wu Jing, a prominent figure in Chinese cinema, who portrays Daoma, a chivalrous bodyguard exemplifying the essence of traditional Chinese knightly virtues through his martial arts prowess. Alongside him, celebrated Yue Opera performer Chen Lijun captivated audiences with her portrayal of Ayuya, a leader from the Western Regions, demonstrating the depth of Eastern artistic expression.
Both Wu Jing and Chen Lijun actively engaged with the local audience, watching the film alongside them and participating in discussions that emphasized the universal nature of storytelling and emotional connection. Wu Jing remarked on the power of sincere narratives to transcend cultural and national boundaries, while Chen Lijun shared insights from her experiences in Cyprus, highlighting the beauty of cultural integration.

The closing ceremony attracted nearly 200 distinguished guests, including Zhou Yunliang, the chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Chinese embassy in Cyprus, and Mao Yu, the executive deputy director of the National Film Administration of China. The event was also attended by senior officials from the Cypriot deputy ministry of culture, local dignitaries, diplomatic envoys, and representatives of the overseas Chinese community.
