In a concerted effort to enhance public safety and prevent serious crime, police across Cyprus conducted targeted operations overnight, resulting in the arrest of six individuals. These operations were part of a broader initiative aimed at maintaining public order and reinforcing the community's sense of security.
The police executed organized patrols in key urban areas, focusing on crime prevention and public safety. During these operations, officers stopped and checked a total of 424 vehicles, inspecting 540 drivers and passengers. The six arrests stemmed from various offenses, including illegal residency, unlawful possession of drugs, driving a stolen vehicle, public intoxication, and causing disturbances.
In addition to the arrests, police conducted 34 inspections of various premises, leading to five reports for different regulatory violations. Traffic enforcement was also a significant aspect of the operations, resulting in 226 reports for road traffic offenses. Notably, 87 of these reports were related to speeding violations, highlighting ongoing concerns about road safety.
Furthermore, police carried out 114 alcohol tests, with one driver exceeding the legal blood alcohol limit. In an effort to combat drug-related offenses, five roadside drug tests were performed, two of which yielded positive results. As part of the investigations, five vehicles were impounded.
The police emphasized that these operations are part of their daily commitment to preventing and combating crime. By increasing their presence on the streets and conducting targeted inspections, law enforcement aims to protect the public and uphold public order.
The recent operations reflect a proactive approach by the police to address various issues affecting community safety and to deter criminal activity across the island. As the police continue their efforts, they encourage the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help maintain a safe environment for all residents and visitors in Cyprus.
