**South African Police Offer Reward for Information on Ghanaian National's Murder**
Cape Town, South Africa – The South African Police Service (SAPS) has announced a reward of 50,000 rand (approximately $3,000) for information leading to the arrest and conviction of individuals involved in the murder of a Ghanaian national, Bashira Issaka. The tragic incident occurred on June 29 at Issaka's container business in Cape Town, where he was fatally shot after being reportedly asked to pay a protection fee.
According to police spokesperson Thembakazi Mpendukana, the suspects entered Issaka's business premises and demanded a payment before shooting him. This incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of foreign nationals and the prevalence of extortion-related violence in the area.
Investigators are currently pursuing various leads to identify and apprehend those responsible for the crime. Mpendukana emphasized the importance of community involvement in the investigation, stating, “The investigating officer is exploring all avenues in a bid to bring the perpetrators to book and reaches out to the community for assistance.”
In an effort to encourage witnesses to come forward, the Western Cape police have assured the public that the identities of anyone providing information will be kept confidential. Mpendukana reiterated this point, saying, “Identities of those who offer their assistance will remain anonymous. A cash reward is offered for the successful arrest and conviction of the suspects.”
The case is being handled by Sergeant Donovan Peterson from the Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes unit, who is committed to ensuring that justice is served in this matter.
As the investigation continues, local authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the murder of Bashira Issaka to contact the police, highlighting the critical role that community support plays in solving violent crimes. The SAPS remains dedicated to addressing the concerns of both local residents and foreign nationals living in South Africa, as they work to create a safer environment for all.
