**Southport Girls’ Killer Charged with Assaulting Prison Staff**
A British man, Axel Rudakubana, currently serving a lengthy prison sentence for the murders of three young girls, faced additional charges in a London court on Monday. The 20-year-old appeared via video link from Broadmoor high-security psychiatric hospital, where he is being held, to respond to allegations of assaulting prison staff.
Rudakubana was convicted for his role in a tragic incident that occurred on July 29, 2024, during a Taylor Swift-themed dance event in Southport, northern England. At that time, he was just 17 years old when he carried out a frenzied knife attack that resulted in the deaths of three girls: Bebe King, aged six; Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven; and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, nine. The attack also left ten others injured and sparked widespread rioting across the country in the days that followed.
Following his conviction, Rudakubana was sentenced to a minimum of 52 years in prison after he admitted to the killings. His case has drawn significant public attention due to the nature of the crimes and the young age of the victims.
In addition to his murder conviction, Rudakubana now faces serious charges stemming from incidents that occurred while he was incarcerated. In May 2025, he was charged with attempted grievous bodily harm after allegedly throwing boiling water mixed with sugar at a prison officer at Belmarsh prison. This incident is one of several that have led to additional charges against him, including two counts of assault on an emergency worker occurring in May and October of the same year.
Furthermore, authorities discovered stone shards in Rudakubana's cell, leading to a charge of possession of an offensive weapon in prison. These developments have raised concerns about his behavior while incarcerated and the safety of prison staff.
During the court appearance on Monday, Rudakubana confirmed his identity and acknowledged that he could hear the proceedings, but he was not required to enter any pleas at this time. His next court appearance is scheduled for October 19 at London’s Old Bailey, where further proceedings regarding the new charges will take place.
