**Teen Wins Triple Gold at STEM Olympiad**
Sixteen-year-old Nikola Savic has made headlines after winning three gold medals at the International STEM Olympiad Grand Final held in Rome from July 2 to 8. His remarkable achievements in mathematics, science, and technology and engineering not only earned him top honors but also allowed him to proudly raise the flag of the Republic of Cyprus on the winners' podium.
The prestigious competition attracted 1,154 finalists and guests from 54 countries, with over 38,000 students from 153 countries participating in various stages of the Olympiad. Savic's performance stands out, especially as he celebrated his 16th birthday on the opening day of the event.
In an interview with the *Cyprus Mail*, Savic reflected on his experience, describing it as “unforgettable.” He acknowledged the high level of competition but expressed confidence in his abilities as he approached the event. “I respected the level of the competition, but I arrived in Rome with great confidence and a strong belief in my own abilities,” he stated.
Savic attributed his success to years of diligent preparation, continuous study, and participation in international competitions. He emphasized the dedication required for such Olympiads, noting, “Olympiads require a huge investment of time and discipline, but the feeling of standing on the winners’ podium after all that effort cannot be measured.”
In addition to his accomplishments in the Olympiad, Savic is a student at both the American Academy Larnaca and the MGIMO Gorchakov Lyceum. He shared insights about the educational landscape in Cyprus, acknowledging that while some schools actively promote and organize competitions, the initiative ultimately rests with individual students. “I firmly believe there are young people in Cyprus who can help raise the country’s standing in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics,” he remarked. “My message is not to wait until you feel completely ready or until someone else creates an opportunity for you.”
Looking ahead, Savic expressed his academic aspirations, emphasizing that his primary goal is to create work of genuine value that leaves a lasting impact. He cited inventor Nikola Tesla as one of his greatest inspirations, reflecting a desire to contribute meaningfully to the fields of science and technology.
“I am extremely proud to represent and promote Cyprus internationally. I hope that my achievements will contribute to the country’s greater international recognition,” he concluded.
Savic's success at the International STEM Olympiad not only highlights his personal achievements but also serves as an inspiration for young students in Cyprus and beyond, encouraging them to pursue their interests in STEM fields and to strive for excellence. His story is a testament to the potential of youth and the importance of dedication and initiative in achieving one's goals.
