**Temperatures Expected to Reach 40 Degrees Celsius on Sunday**
As summer approaches its peak, temperatures in Cyprus are projected to soar to 40 degrees Celsius this Sunday, according to meteorologist Matthaios Papadakis. Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency on Saturday, Papadakis indicated that a yellow weather warning for high heat is likely to be issued in response to the rising temperatures.
While the forecasted highs are notably above the seasonal average, Papadakis clarified that the current weather conditions do not yet qualify as an official heatwave. He emphasized that although the heat is significant, it does not meet the criteria typically associated with a prolonged period of excessively high temperatures.
The meteorologist also noted that the hot weather is expected to persist through Wednesday, suggesting that residents should prepare for several days of elevated temperatures. In terms of humidity, Papadakis reported that levels are generally low, with some exceptions during the nighttime hours in coastal regions.
Reflecting on the summer thus far, he remarked that it has been relatively mild, stating, “So far, summer has been good for us, and not heavy.” However, he cautioned that higher temperatures are anticipated in the weeks ahead, which could lead to increased discomfort for many.
As the island braces for the impending heat, authorities and health officials are likely to remind the public to take precautions against heat-related illnesses, particularly for vulnerable populations such as the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions.
With the summer season now in full swing, residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, seek shade during peak sun hours, and remain informed about weather updates as the situation develops.
