**Thalassa Festival Returns to Limassol for a Full Day of Maritime Discovery**
Limassol, Cyprus – The vibrant seafront of Limassol is set to transform into an engaging hub of maritime exploration on October 10, as the Thalassa festival makes its much-anticipated return. This year marks the fifth edition of the “Thalassa 2026” festival, which will run from 9 AM to 7 PM at the Limassol Multifunctional Seaside Park, located along the picturesque Molos promenade.
Organized collaboratively by the Shipping Deputy Ministry and the Limassol municipality, the festival aims to immerse attendees in the world of shipping through a variety of interactive activities, particularly focusing on children and young people. The central theme for this year’s event is “Experience the sea – Get to know Shipping,” emphasizing the importance of maritime education and environmental awareness.
The festival is designed to foster a connection between the public and the sea, showcasing shipping not just as a leisure activity but as a vital source of education, employment, and economic opportunity. Attendees will have the chance to engage in creative and hands-on experiences that highlight the multifaceted nature of the maritime sector. In previous editions, the Thalassa festival has successfully combined education with entertainment, featuring a diverse range of activities. The last festival, held in 2024, saw participation from 43 organizations and public bodies, offering a program that included educational workshops, water-based activities, and performances. Highlights from that event included the “Run for Seafarers,” a charity run in collaboration with the International Transport Workers’ Federation, aimed at raising awareness for seafarers who play a crucial role in global trade.
The 2024 festival also featured a swimming excursion at the historic port of Amathus, as well as several free cruises, jet ski races, and a thrilling flyboard demonstration. The opening ceremony was marked by a procession of vessels from various maritime authorities, including the Naval Command, Port and Marine Police, and the Fisheries Department, showcasing the collaborative spirit of the maritime community. The day concluded with a concert by popular Greek singer-songwriter Kostis Maraveyas, further enhancing the festive atmosphere.
The upcoming Thalassa 2026 festival follows Limassol's successful hosting of European Maritime Day in May, another event organized in partnership with the Shipping Deputy Ministry, Limassol municipality, and the European Commission. This prior event underscored Limassol's commitment to promoting maritime activities and the blue economy.
