For some, the ones we beamed about on our front pages, it was total vindication, the well-earned applause of a whole society. For others, satisfaction came with its share of compromises and mixed feelings. And then there were those who went through deep disappointment, who felt they’d failed, even though some of them will still land a university place, just not the one they wanted. Either way, society owes a genuine “well done” to those who landed dazzling results, and just as much to those who fought their own fight with everything they had. Because who, really, can draw a clean line between success and failure, when life itself stretches out over such a vast, complex, multi-layered landscape? The truth is our education system is built mainly around standardised knowledge and grade-chasing, and it often loses sight of what it’s actually meant to do: shape whole people, with critical thinking, resilience, and emotional intelligence. An exam, even one as high-stakes as the Pancyprians, measures nothing more than how you performed on one particular day, under pressure. It can’t capture a young person’s character, their creativity, their humanity, all of which belong to a different part of education altogether. Success in life certainly isn’t sealed by certificates and titles. It’s measured by a person’s resilience, their capacity to look hardship in the eye, to pick themselves back up, learn from setbacks, and keep growing. The fight doesn’t end when you walk out of the exam hall. If anything, that’s when it really begins. Alongside the warm congratulations to those at the very top, and they’ve genuinely achieved something remarkable, the future looks just as bright for everyone still willing to widen their horizons and keep on dreaming. There are no closed doors, only temporary roadblocks. Life’s track is packed with alternative routes for anyone with stubbornness, persistence, and above all, will. Warm congratulations to all our young people for their fine effort. The real challenge now is to walk forward with their heads held high, with faith in their own abilities, and with plenty of optimism. Let them know that real success is the never-ending journey of learning, and the shaping of a whole, honest character.
