DANCE Limassol, Rialto Theatre, September 18-20. The 4th Cyprus Choreography Showcase returns to Limassol, presenting eight choreographic works that reflect the dynamism and diversity of Cyprus’s contemporary dance scene. Musical ensemble Es Aei presents “Στην αρχή των τραγουδιών” (“At the Beginning of Songs”), a musical journey through the roots, evolution and development of Greek song. Es Aei is made up of Giorgos Ioannou (vocals), Konstantinos Makaritis (flute), Paris Xanthou (piano), Christos Tylissanakis (guitar, lute), Andreas Rodosthenous (electric bass) and Rodos Panayiotou (percussion). The musical performance “Πού ‘ναι τα χρόνια” (“Where Have the Years Gone”), dedicated to the work of the great Greek composer Stavros Kougioumtzis. Performed by Dimitris Fanis, who also handles the show’s musical direction, and Marina Verzanli, accompanied by Aristos Christodoulou (piano), Charalambos Dimitriou (percussion), Costas Challoumas (acoustic bass), Charalambos Panteli (guitar), Giorgos Dimitriou (bouzouki) and Michalis Karakatsanis (accordion). Queer Wave, Cyprus’s LGBTQIA+ Film Festival, returns for its 7th consecutive year, bringing queer cinema and queer expression back to Nicosia’s historic centre. queerwave.com VISUAL ARTS Limassol, The Edit Gallery (25251710). The Edit Gallery presents “Carriers,” a solo exhibition of a new body of ceramic sculpture by British artist Hannah Rowan, created during a period of research and production in Limassol. Until October 17. Ayia Napa, Ayia Napa Marina Event Center, 7-10pm. A charity exhibition of around 50 works by Peter Tooby is held for one night only at Ayia Napa Marina, using art to support people facing cancer. The works will be available for sale, with all proceeds going to the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre. Ayia Napa, “Georgos Seferis” Ayia Napa Cultural Centre, 7pm. Ayia Napa Municipality, through its Ayia Napa Municipal District, in cooperation with the Cyprus Association of Potters and Ceramicists and the “Aroma” Ayia Napa Association – Friends of the Sculpture Park, launches a new cultural institution, “Days of Ceramics, Art and Clay in Ayia Napa.” Opening at 7pm by Deputy Minister of Culture Clea Papaellina. Until September 20. THEATRE Nicosia, Satirical Theatre – Main Stage, 8pm. Three final chances for Nicosia audiences to see Louiza Papaloizou’s “Το Βουνί” (“The Mountain”). The play is staged in a theatrical adaptation directed by Maria Kyriakou, with a twelve-strong cast bringing to life the story of Xenis, the Daughter and the Swede. Dionysios Solomos’s enigmatic masterpiece “The Woman of Zakynthos” is brought to life at the Nicosia International Festival through a dynamic staged reading by the Kinitiras group, directed and curated by Antigoni Gyra. The two actors, Aliki Avdelopoulou and Dimitris Agoras, follow the rhythm of Solomos’s language with their whole bodies, singing and switching roles to turn the staged reading into a physical, spoken narrative. The play centres on a seemingly light-hearted television talk show, where an inventor presents his new “innovative” idea.
