Theatre Nicosia, Aegea Theatre, Thursday July 2 and Thursday July 9, 8.30pm. Eirini Andronikou’s “Vigil For Pentheus: Reflections on the End of Civilisation” is a poetic stage composition on the collapse of culture, violence and collective memory, coming to Cyprus for two performances only. The piece recently premiered at the historic Kykladon Street Theatre – Lefteris Vogiatzis in Athens, as part of the 2nd Festival of New Creators and Groups “Empty Space”, under the artistic direction of Stathis Livathinos, and now transfers to Nicosia. The starting point is the Euripidean depiction of the dismembered body of Pentheus in The Bacchae. Eirini Andronikou and Antonia Charalambous develop a complex dramaturgical and stage dialogue with texts from ancient Greek literature. Bookings: docs.google.com or by phone on 99836587. Music Lympia, Community Park Theatre, 9pm. Musical groups Gkintiki and Thrax Punx, two bands drawing on Greek tradition whilst refusing to treat it as a museum piece, promise an evening full of rhythm, improvisation and stage energy.
