**Tobacco Products Seized at Agios Dhometios Crossing Point**
Agios Dhometios, Cyprus – A significant seizure of tobacco products took place at the Agios Dhometios crossing point on Thursday, as customs officials uncovered a large quantity of undeclared cigarettes and rolling tobacco during a routine inspection. The incident highlights ongoing efforts to enforce regulations under the Green Line Regulation, which governs the movement of goods between the Republic of Cyprus and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
According to the customs department, the operation involved a vehicle displaying Turkish Cypriot registration plates. The vehicle was driven by a Turkish Cypriot individual and carried four British passengers. During the inspection, customs officers discovered 47 boxes, each containing 200 cigarettes, alongside 1.5 kilograms of rolling tobacco found in one of the passengers' luggage.
The seized tobacco products were noted to lack essential health warnings, security markings, and traceability codes. These deficiencies indicated that the necessary taxes had not been paid to the Republic of Cyprus, thus violating local regulations regarding tobacco sales and distribution.
In accordance with established procedures, the tobacco products were confiscated and designated for destruction.
