The Free Immersion (FIM) world record has changed hands for the fifth time in 2026, and once again it belongs to Zsófia Törőcsik. Törőcsik delivered a spectacular 108-metre dive today at the World Apnea 2026 Depth Championships in Limassol, taking both the FIM World Championship title and the world record in one extraordinary performance. The official results confirm her 108 m dive as a new World Record, pending the applicable ratification process. In Free Immersion, athletes descend and return to the surface by pulling themselves along the dive line with their hands, without using fins. At 108 metres, Törőcsik completed the dive in 4:00 minutes, returned to the surface, completed the required surface protocol and presented her tag to the judges. And then she celebrated. Törőcsik threw the tag high into the air — an image that perfectly captured the emotion of the moment. Afterwards, she summed up her feelings simply: “My happiness was sky-high today.” Zharkova pushes to 103 metres The battle for the title was anything but easy. Nataliia Zharkova of Ukraine produced an impressive 103-metre dive to take the silver medal, finishing just five metres behind the new World Champion. The result adds another chapter to the remarkable rivalry between Törőcsik and Zharkova. The two athletes have repeatedly exchanged world-record honours during the 2026 season, and today they once again stood together at the top of one of freediving’s most demanding disciplines. Isabel Sanchez Aran of Spain completed the podium with a 92-metre dive, earning bronze and setting a new Spanish national record, pending ratification. For Sanchez Aran, the achievement is particularly significant: it is her first medal at an AIDA World Championship and her first World Championship podium in her freediving career. Perfect conditions for a day of deep diving The sea in Limassol delivered almost ideal conditions for the athletes today. With calm water and no current, the women were able to focus entirely on their dives and show their best performances. The conditions created a spectacular setting for a competition that saw the world’s leading athletes pushing deep into the Mediterranean. The day also produced further national and continental records. Jade MacDonald-Razvi of Australia reached 85 m for a new Australian record, while Talya Davidoff of South Africa set a South African record at 82 m. Vera Burkard of Switzerland reached 81 m for a national record, and Shlomit Wallerstein of Israel established a new national record at 78 m.
