**Trump Hails Progress on US Army Base Negotiations in Poland Amid Rising Tensions with Russia**
President Donald Trump announced significant advancements in negotiations to establish a permanent US Army base in Poland, a move that underscores the strengthening military ties between the two nations. Trump's comments were shared on his social media platform, Truth Social, where he expressed gratitude for the leadership of Polish President Karol Nawrocki in facilitating this development.
“GREAT NEWS! Thanks to the bold leadership of my friend, Karol Nawrocki, President of Poland, major progress is being made toward establishing a US Army base in Poland,” Trump stated. He indicated that the specific location of the base would be disclosed soon, calling it a historic step for the US-Polish alliance.
Poland's strategic location, bordering Russia's Kaliningrad exclave, positions it as a critical logistics hub for Western military support to Ukraine, particularly amid the ongoing conflict in the region. The Polish government has been a staunch ally of Ukraine, advocating for increased military assistance from NATO allies.
In response to Trump's announcement, President Nawrocki emphasized Poland's commitment to finding the best possible site for the base, reiterating the country’s readiness to enhance defense cooperation with the United States. “We are ready to continue our efforts to strengthen our defense cooperation: seriously, responsibly, and always together,” Nawrocki wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The US currently maintains a permanent Army garrison and command headquarters in Poland, with approximately 10,000 American troops stationed in the country, most of whom are there on a rotational basis. During Trump's first term, Poland had proposed hosting a permanent base, informally dubbed “Fort Trump.” Under President Joe Biden's administration, the US established a garrison at Camp Kosciuszko in Poznan and permanently stationed the V Corps Forward Headquarters in the city.

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, during a visit to Kiev, expressed confidence in Poland's military capabilities, stating, “if Russia attacked us and we took our gloves off, I think we would defeat Russia quite quickly.” This assertion drew a sharp response from Russian officials. Nikolay Patrushev, a presidential aide and former security chief, warned that “Polish statehood would cease to exist within two or three days” if a conflict were to erupt.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also addressed the situation, asserting that Russia has no intention of attacking NATO members but cautioned that if the alliance were to strike Russia, the conflict would be “very short.”
