On Tuesday, two men, aged 51 and 47, were apprehended in Nicosia as part of a drug investigation conducted by the local police drug squad, known as Ykan. The operation resulted in the seizure of over two kilograms of cannabis, cash, and other related items.

The investigation commenced following the collection and analysis of intelligence related to drug activities in the area. The first suspect, a 51-year-old man, was stopped by police while driving on a road in Nicosia. A search of his vehicle revealed 90 grams of dry cannabis and a partially smoked hand-rolled cannabis cigarette. He was arrested on the spot for drug-related offenses and taken into custody.

In a related operation, police later intercepted a second vehicle driven by a 47-year-old man. During the search of this vehicle, officers discovered three knives. Similar to the first suspect, the 47-year-old was arrested for offenses committed in flagrante and taken into custody.

Following the arrests, police conducted a search of the 47-year-old's residence. This search yielded approximately 2.32 kilograms of dry cannabis, a grinder with cannabis residue, and a significant amount of cash totaling €10,800. The items collected during the search are currently being examined by authorities.

Both suspects were scheduled to appear before the Nicosia district court on Wednesday for remand hearings. The investigation by Ykan remains ongoing as authorities continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the case.

The arrests highlight ongoing efforts by law enforcement in Cyprus to combat drug-related crimes and ensure public safety.
