**Two Days of Musical Celebration in Limassol's Streets**
This weekend, Limassol is set to come alive with music as it celebrates the International Day of Music. In a collaborative effort, the Alliance Française Limassol and the Limassol Municipality are hosting a vibrant two-day festival that will transform the city center into a lively open-air stage. The event, inspired by the French Fête de la Musique, is designed to bring together musicians and music enthusiasts from all walks of life.
Taking place on Saturday and Sunday, the festivities will span the historic center of Limassol and its picturesque seafront. Over 50 musicians will participate in a series of live performances, showcasing a diverse range of musical genres, including jazz, funk, traditional melodies, reggae, and rembetiko.
The celebrations kick off on Saturday at 6:30 PM with an energetic parade featuring Afro-Brazilian samba music performed by the percussion band Batukinio. This lively procession will traverse key locations such as the Ayiou Andrea pedestrian path, Genethliou Mitella Street, and the Medieval Castle Square, inviting onlookers to join in the rhythm and excitement.
Following the parade, a stage will be set up in the Medieval Castle Square where several performances will take place. At 7:15 PM, the Avant Tout Duo, featuring Vanessa Megalemou and Vasilis Vourvopoulos, will enchant the audience with beloved classic French songs. This will be followed at 8:00 PM by Echo of the Mandolins, an all-female ensemble led by Georgia Kombou, who will present a selection of traditional melodies.
At 8:45 PM, the Ireneos Koulouras Quartet will bring jazz standards to the evening, setting the mood for the Fuzzy Colours band, which will take the stage at 9:30 PM with a lively mix of funk, soul, and groovy sounds.
The musical journey continues on Sunday, starting at 6:30 PM with a performance by the Limassol Municipality Philharmonic Orchestra at the Castle. This will be followed by Aura Voices at 7:00 PM, who will perform a repertoire of traditional French music. At 8:15 PM, the Demetris Mesimeris Band will showcase original Greek compositions, while Bazook will take the stage at 9:00 PM, blending folk-rock and ska covers.
As the evening progresses, a rembetiko fiesta will warm up the atmosphere at 9:45 PM, leading to the grand finale: an open street party on Genethliou Mitella Street at 10:30 PM featuring Kingofeye, who will perform Francophonie reggae.
The Limassol Music Day is free and open to all, embodying the spirit of the global celebration by bringing music out of traditional concert venues and into public spaces. It invites residents and visitors alike to explore the city, discover new sounds, and celebrate the universal language of music together.
The event is scheduled for June 20-21, starting at 6 PM each day, and promises to be a memorable experience for all attendees.
