A third driver involved in a collision in the Famagusta district was also arrested after refusing an alcohol test, while police suspended her driving licence. The first collision happened at around 5pm, when a 43-year-old truck driver lost control of his vehicle under circumstances being investigated by police. The truck veered off the road and struck the fence and wall of a house on the right-hand side of the road in the Nicosia district. The impact also caused damage to the parking area of a neighbouring property. Nicosia Traffic Police officers attended the scene and gave the 43-year-old an alcohol test, which returned a reading of 139μg%ml, compared with the permitted limit of 22. He was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and taken into custody while police investigations continued. Nicosia Traffic Police are investigating. Second driver records 82μg%ml A second collision in the Nicosia district happened shortly after 8.30pm, when a car driven by a 50-year-old man collided with another vehicle driven by a 40-year-old man under circumstances being investigated. Officers from Peristerona Police Station and Morphou Traffic Police attended the scene. Both drivers were tested for alcohol, with the 50-year-old recording 82μg%ml, against the permitted limit of 22. He was arrested for the purposes of the police investigation. Peristerona Police Station is investigating. Driver refuses alcohol test in Protaras In the Famagusta district, a car driven by a 43-year-old woman collided with a vehicle driven by a 42-year-old man on a road in the Protaras area of Paralimni at around 8pm. Police officers attended the scene, where the 42-year-old returned a zero reading in an alcohol test. The 43-year-old, who police said was showing signs of intoxication, refused to provide a sample for an alcohol test. She was arrested for the purposes of the investigation and police also suspended her driving licence. The woman was taken to Paralimni Police Station, where she was additionally arrested for the offence of causing a disturbance in a public place. She was released shortly before 11.30pm and will be summoned at a later stage. Paralimni Police Station is continuing its investigation.
