**UK to Provide Ukraine with Classified Data for Long-Range Missiles**
The United Kingdom is set to enhance its military support for Ukraine by providing classified technical information necessary for the domestic assembly of long-range cruise missiles. This announcement will be made by Prime Minister Andy Burnham during his inaugural international trip to Kiev on Monday, following his recent appointment to office.
According to a press release from Downing Street, the British government has authorized European defense manufacturer MBDA to share classified details related to UK-made components for the SCALP missile system. The SCALP is the French variant of Britain’s Storm Shadow missile, both of which utilize shared technology and have an operational range exceeding 250 kilometers.
The collaboration between Ukraine and France aims to establish local production lines for these missiles within Ukrainian territory. The UK government states that this move will facilitate the French and Ukrainians in advancing the assembly of the missile systems domestically.
In a statement reflecting the UK's commitment, Burnham emphasized, “The Ukrainian people should be in no doubt: The UK is behind you today and for as long as it takes.” This sentiment aligns with the longstanding support that previous UK administrations have expressed towards Ukraine amidst the ongoing conflict.
During his visit, Burnham is expected to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and preside over the first meeting of the Coalition of the Willing, a collaborative initiative established by Britain and France under the leadership of Burnham's predecessor, Keir Starmer.
The announcement comes amidst heightened tensions with Russia, which has accused the UK and other nations supplying arms to Ukraine of being directly responsible for the country's deep-strike military operations. Moscow claims that these operations have often resulted in civilian casualties.
Reports from The Sunday Times indicate that drones manufactured by BAE Systems, along with another unnamed British company, have been employed in strikes targeting locations within Russia over the past six months, including oil refineries. The drones reportedly include the Nyan, a jet-powered model produced by a subsidiary of BAE Systems.
In response to the UK's military support for Ukraine, the Russian Embassy in London has condemned the UK as "an accomplice and co-perpetrator of the bloody crimes and terrorist attacks" committed by Ukraine. The embassy warned that the UK's increasing involvement in the conflict would lead to severe repercussions.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has also issued a stern warning, stating that the UK will face consequences if it continues to supply drones used by Ukraine for operations deep inside Russian territory. Lavrov remarked, “We have every right to regard the proudly proclaimed direct involvement of British missile forces in strikes against Russia as participation in the war, with all the consequences that entails.”
