Oct. 2, 2026 Social media Ukrainian drone attacks targeted industrial facilities in southern Russia’s Volgograd and Krasnodar regions, officials and media reported Friday. Volgograd region Governor Andrei Bocharov said a “mass” drone attack targeted “industrial infrastructure” and damaged an apartment building, injuring one person. The exiled outlet Astra reported that eyewitness footage showed a large glow from a fire in Volgograd's Krasnoarmeiskyi district, home to both the Volgograd oil refinery — Lukoil’s largest in southern Russia — and the Kaustik chemical plant. Authorities in the Krasnodar region said an “enterprise” was slightly damaged by drone debris in the Black Sea town of Tuapse, which hosts an oil refinery and port facilities that include a grain terminal. Russia’s Defense Ministry said its air defense systems intercepted 646 Ukrainian drones overnight across Russia. President Vladimir Putin recently admitted that Ukrainian refinery attacks have inflicted costs equivalent to 1% of Russia’s GDP. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia launched more than 100 attack drones overnight, nearly 50 of which were jet-powered, as he called on Western allies to tighten sanctions on Russia’s supply chains for foreign components. Russian air strikes killed one and injured two in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv, and forced the closure of the Southern Bridge and Paton Bridge across the Dnipro River, with partial restrictions on the Metro Bridge.
