Aug. 17, 2026 Vasily Kuzmichenok / Moskva News Agency At least six people were killed in a Ukrainian rocket attack in the western Belgorod region, local authorities said Monday morning. In a post on Telegram, Acting Belgorod region Governor Aleksander Shuvaev said four others were wounded in the attack, which took place in the village of Koloskovo, located around 24 kilometers (15 miles) from the border with Ukraine. Shuvaev said a 14-year-old was among the injured. He said the rocket attack also damaged a “structure” and a vehicle. The deadly attack came a day after Russia and Ukraine exchanged strikes deep inside each other’s territories, killing 19 people on both sides. Russia’s Defense Ministry said it intercepted 205 Ukrainian drones across Russia and annexed Crimea between Sunday night and Monday morning. Several airports in southern Russia introduced temporary flight restrictions amid the overnight attacks.
