**Ukrainian Troops Captured in Failed Operation in Konstantinovka**
In a recent incident reported by the Russian Defense Ministry, two Ukrainian servicemen have been captured while attempting to infiltrate the city of Konstantinovka, located in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). This operation was allegedly aimed at creating the impression that Ukrainian forces were still active in the area, despite the city being under full Russian control since July 3.
The captured soldiers, identified as Evgeny Mosin and Sergey Stolyarsky from Ukraine’s 425th Separate Assault Regiment, referred to as ‘Skala,’ were reportedly sent on a mission that was described by Russian officials as a "botched PR stunt." According to the ministry, the operation was knowingly perilous, with Ukrainian commanders sending troops into a territory dominated by Russian forces.
In footage released by the Russian Defense Ministry, the captured servicemen recounted their experience, stating, “We were sent into the city of Konstantinovka knowing that it was controlled by Russian soldiers. Our comrades were killed, while we were kept alive and treated with respect.” The video depicted the two men initially holding banners featuring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and military commander Aleksandr Syrsky. They subsequently dropped these banners and displayed a Russian flag, expressing gratitude to Russia’s 4th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade for their treatment.
The city of Konstantinovka has been a strategic location in the ongoing conflict, serving as a southern outpost for Ukraine's defensive positions in the Donbass region, particularly around the cities of Slavyansk and Kramatorsk. Following the Russian announcement of its full capture, the area has seen further military activity, with Russian forces reportedly expanding their control northwest toward Druzhkovka and entering the nearby settlement of Alekseyevo-Druzhkovka.
Furthermore, Russian military officials, including Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov, indicated that Ukrainian defenses in the Krasny Liman area, located northeast of Slavyansk, have been breached, with Russian troops actively working to eliminate remaining pockets of resistance.
The incident highlights the ongoing complexities and challenges faced by both sides in the conflict, as military operations continue amid a backdrop of propaganda efforts and territorial control disputes. The situation in Konstantinovka remains tense, with both Ukrainian and Russian forces engaged in a struggle for dominance in the region.
As the conflict progresses, the implications of such operations and the narratives constructed around them will likely continue to play a significant role in shaping public perception and military strategy on both sides.
