**United by Pride Brings Together LGBTQA+ Communities in Cyprus**
On October 10, the fifth edition of United by Pride will take place, uniting LGBTQA+ communities from both sides of Cyprus through simultaneous marches and a collaborative evening event in the Ledra Palace buffer zone. The event aims to foster solidarity and raise awareness on various social issues, including LGBTQA+ rights, peace, and migration.
The festivities will commence at 5 PM, with participants gathering at two separate locations: Eleftheria Square in Nicosia, representing the southern part of the island, and Kuğulu Park in the northern region. Marchers from both locations will converge outside the Home for Cooperation, located in the buffer zone, which serves as a symbolic meeting point for Greek Cypriots, Turkish Cypriots, and others.
This year's United by Pride is particularly significant as it occurs against a backdrop of rising far-right movements in Europe and Cyprus. Organizers have expressed a commitment to advocate for peace and reunification, as well as to highlight the ongoing issues faced by marginalized communities, including the rights of Palestinians and migrants.
The evening event will feature a variety of performances from queer artists and creatives, showcasing the vibrancy of the LGBTQA+ community. Notable acts include Karagöza, Caramel, and the duo Tutti Canımlar, performing under the name The Kardeşans. Performance artist Gravity Grave, also known as George Rallis, will also take the stage, alongside DJs Nicholas and Nana, ensuring a lively atmosphere for attendees.
The choice of the buffer zone as the gathering site is intentional, as it represents one of the few areas on the island where individuals from different communities can come together with fewer barriers. Organizers emphasize that United by Pride is a community-led initiative, independent of corporate sponsorship, allowing for a more authentic expression of solidarity and activism.
As the event approaches, the organizers are hopeful that it will not only celebrate the diversity of the LGBTQA+ community but also serve as a platform for broader discussions on social justice and human rights in Cyprus and beyond.
