Russia's defense industryUralvagonzavod Group successfully completes tests of upgraded BREM-80 recovery vehicle The vehicle is equipped with a mechanized coupling device for towing equipment without the crew having to exit the vehicleMOSCOW, October 6. /TASS/. The Uralvagonzavod Group (UVZ, part of Russia’s Rostec State Corporation) has successfully tested the upgraded BREM-80 recovery and repair armored vehicle, which features enhanced protection against drones, the group’s press service reported. "The modernized BREM-80 recovery and repair armored vehicle, manufactured by Uralvagonzavod, has completed a full cycle of testing. It has been equipped with enhanced protection against drones and sixth-generation communications. The vehicle is equipped with a mechanized coupling device for towing equipment without the crew having to exit the vehicle. All modifications were made with the vehicle's use in the special military operation zone in mind," the press service stated. It said that Uralvagonzavod specialists tested the jamming resistance of the sixth-generation communications system in electronic warfare conditions, as well as tested the mechanized coupling device under extreme loads while towing heavy armored vehicles over rough terrain. Designers have reinforced the BREM-80’s protection against high-explosive anti-tank rounds, drones, and artillery shell fragments. According to UVZ, the vehicle’s new sixth-generation radio equipment is resistant to jamming. The mechanized coupling is one of the BREM-80’s key innovations. Previously, to secure tow cables, soldiers had to leave the BREM while under enemy fire. The modernized vehicle provides increased protection to the crew. In addition, the BREM-80 is equipped with a dozer-spade anchor for clearing roads and passages and for anchoring the vehicle to the ground. The vehicle’s towing capabilities alone allow it to tow not only Russian or Soviet tanks but also heavier Western armored vehicles. Moreover, the BREM-80 can tow several tanks at once. "The special military operation experience has shown that evacuating damaged vehicles is one of the most dangerous tasks on the front line. The modernization of the BREM-80 was aimed primarily at crew safety. The mechanized towing system and new armor protection make the work faster and with minimal risk to the crew’s lives. Serial production of the upgraded vehicles has already begun, and the equipment is being delivered to Russian troops," the Uralvagonzavod Group stated.
