**US School Shooter Pleads Guilty in Georgia Following Father's Conviction**
Winder, Georgia – Colt Gray, a 16-year-old accused of a tragic school shooting at Apalachee High School, has pleaded guilty to 55 charges, including murder. This plea comes in the wake of his father, Colin Gray, being convicted of second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter related to the incident.
The shooting occurred on September 4, 2024, when Colt Gray used an assault-style rifle, which had been given to him by his father, to carry out the attack. The incident resulted in the deaths of two students, Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, both 14 years old, as well as two teachers, Richard Aspinwall, 39, and Cristina Irimie, 53. In addition to the fatalities, another teacher and eight students sustained injuries during the shooting.
Colt Gray's plea was accepted by Barrow County Superior Court Judge Nicholas Primm, who conducted a thorough inquiry to confirm that the teenager understood the implications of his guilty plea and was doing so voluntarily. Gray responded affirmatively to each of the judge's questions, indicating his comprehension of the situation.

According to the advocacy group Everytown for Gun Safety, there have been 64 school-related shooting incidents in 2024 alone, resulting in 24 deaths and 32 injuries. Breanna Schermerhorn, the mother of victim Mason Schermerhorn, expressed her anguish in court, stating that she does not forgive Colt Gray for his actions. She emphasized that while adults in Colt's life failed to recognize warning signs, the ultimate decision to commit the shooting was his alone. "Mason deserved a future, and we all deserved a future with Mason in it, and Colt took that from Mason and everyone who loved him," she remarked.
As a result of his guilty plea to murder, Colt Gray faces a minimum sentence of life in prison. His trial was initially scheduled to begin in mid-October, but the plea agreement has now altered the course of the legal proceedings.
