Police in Limassol fired warning shots to stop the white van after a chase during which occupants allegedly threw objects at pursuing patrol cars, according to reports. A Cycling Police officer signalled the driver to stop for a check at around 10:40am on Athinon Street. The driver reportedly failed to stop, continuing towards the Ypsonas Industrial Area while the officer followed and called for backup. Along the route, the vehicle reportedly collided with two parked cars. During the chase, occupants of the van reportedly threw objects at police patrol cars, according to reports. Several officers took part in the operation, and warning shots were reportedly fired towards the vehicle’s tyres and into the air to bring it to a stop. The van was eventually intercepted and stopped at the Eleftherios traffic lights in Kato Polemidia. Two people, aged 20 and 19, were arrested. The 20-year-old is reportedly known to police, having allegedly been involved in a similar incident around a month earlier. The driver was arrested for offences committed in the act, while the second man, who was travelling as a passenger, is being questioned. Police are examining the circumstances of the incident and the exact offences under investigation.
