**WATCH: Six-Year-Old Girl Rescued After Being Trapped Under Rubble in Nepal Floods**
A six-year-old girl has been successfully rescued from beneath mud and debris in Nepal, as shown in a video that has circulated online. This remarkable rescue occurred three days after severe flooding devastated northern regions of the country.
The flooding began on Wednesday when a massive ice-and-rock avalanche descended into the upper Bhote Koshi River, leading to catastrophic consequences for communities downstream, particularly along the Trishuli River. The floods have resulted in extensive damage, destroying homes, roads, bridges, and critical energy infrastructure.
As of the latest reports, the death toll from this disaster has reached 734, with approximately 2,500 individuals still unaccounted for. Among the missing are 589 foreign nationals, 933 workers from hydropower projects, and 85 security personnel. Additionally, around 242 people have sustained injuries due to the flooding, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.
The areas most severely impacted include Chitwan district, which has reported 259 fatalities, followed by Nawalparasi East with 184 deaths and Nawalparasi West with 82. Efforts to identify bodies are ongoing at 21 hospitals across the country, highlighting the scale of the tragedy.
In response to the disaster, nearly 20,000 security personnel have been deployed for search-and-rescue operations. Rescuers, utilizing both helicopters and ground teams, have successfully saved 8,186 individuals, including 279 who were trapped inside a hydropower tunnel and 227 foreign nationals.
The Nepali government has allocated more than a billion rupees (over $6.5 million) in aid for the affected regions. Relief efforts include the dispatch of dozens of trucks carrying essential supplies and air deliveries of food to communities that have been isolated due to the floods.
On Saturday, the Russian Embassy in China reported that eight Russian nationals were missing in the disaster zone along the Nepal-China border. By the end of the day, the Nepal Tourism Board confirmed that nine Russians were among those unaccounted for. Of these, two have since been rescued, while seven remain missing.
On the Chinese side of the border, the situation is similarly dire. Authorities in Tibet's Gyirong County have reported 16 fatalities and 546 individuals missing. Among those unaccounted for are 261 foreign nationals from 23 different countries. Over 2,100 rescue personnel have been mobilized in the area, but officials have cautioned about the risks posed by unstable terrain and a newly formed barrier lake, which could exacerbate the situation.
As rescue operations continue, the focus remains on locating missing individuals and providing aid to those affected by this natural disaster. The ongoing efforts reflect the resilience and determination of both local and international teams working together in the face of adversity.
