**Wife of Ryanair Passenger Nearly Sucked Out of Dislodged Window Recalls Incident**
A harrowing incident occurred on a Ryanair flight last week, leaving one passenger severely injured and prompting investigations by aviation authorities. Svetlana Maksimovic and her husband, Ljubisa Karovic, were aboard a flight from Thessaloniki, Greece, to Germany when a loud bang disrupted their journey.
Maksimovic described the moment as surreal. “I’ve never heard anything louder in my life before,” she recalled. Within moments of the noise, she witnessed her 61-year-old husband being pulled through a dislodged cabin window. Karovic, seated by the window, was partially ejected from the aircraft, with his head and right arm hanging outside.
The incident, which Greek officials have labeled as rare, is believed to have been caused by a piece of the aircraft's engine breaking off and striking the window, leading to rapid cabin decompression. Following the incident, the plane began to descend, and the couple, along with other passengers, struggled to pull Karovic back inside. Maksimovic noted that a fellow passenger played a crucial role in helping to rescue her husband, as she and another woman pulled on his left arm in a desperate attempt to save him.
Once they managed to pull Karovic back into the cabin, Maksimovic quickly placed an oxygen mask on him, while another passenger provided her with one as well. “His face was completely disfigured, there was blood everywhere and his ears, eyes, nose were completely deformed,” she said, describing the traumatic scene.
Currently, Karovic is receiving treatment for severe neck and arm injuries at a hospital in Thessaloniki. Maksimovic expressed her concern about the long-term effects of the incident, stating, “The consequences remain for him and for me. How we’re going to heal and how long that treatment will last and in what way, we’ll see.”
In response to the incident, Ryanair has confirmed that a window dislodged during the flight but has refrained from making further comments while the matter is under formal investigation. The investigation is being led by North Macedonia, where the incident occurred, with assistance from Boeing, the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board, and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency. A Greek prosecutor has also initiated a probe, and Greek air accident investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the event.
The aircraft involved in the incident remains in Greece as authorities continue their inquiries. The couple has since engaged a lawyer to navigate the legal implications of the event. Their legal adviser, Vassilis Tsiaras, emphasized the seriousness of the situation and the importance of the ongoing investigation.
As the couple grapples with the aftermath of this traumatic experience, they remain hopeful for Karovic's recovery while seeking answers about the incident that nearly cost him his life.
