**Title: Woman Arrested in Ayia Napa for Alleged Possession of Nitrous Oxide with Intent to Supply**
In the early hours of Tuesday, a 25-year-old woman was arrested in Ayia Napa on suspicion of illegally possessing nitrous oxide, commonly referred to as laughing gas, with the intent to supply it. The arrest was made by officers from the Famagusta Crime Prevention Unit (OPE) shortly after midnight.
According to police reports, the woman was stopped for a routine check, during which a search was conducted. Authorities discovered a metal canister containing 64 unused nitrous oxide capsules, along with 68 balloons typically used for inhaling the gas. Additionally, police found €100 in cash in her possession.
Further investigations revealed that the woman was allegedly residing illegally in the Republic of Cyprus. Following her arrest, she was taken into custody and is expected to appear before the Famagusta District Court later on Tuesday, where charges are anticipated to be filed against her.
The investigation into the case is ongoing, with the Ayia Napa police station leading the efforts. The use and distribution of nitrous oxide have raised concerns due to its potential health risks and the legal implications surrounding its possession and sale.
As authorities continue to address issues related to substance use in the area, this incident highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to tackle illegal drug-related activities in popular tourist destinations like Ayia Napa.
